Greggs: a delivery order is worth 3x a shop order

What Greggs' delivery basket size means for UK chains growing their delivery channel.

Greggs says its average delivery basket is around three times a shop order (Greggs, Interim Results, 29 July 2026, p. 5). Delivery is 6.9% of its sales. Greggs trades on Uber Eats and Just Eat. For a group running delivery across several sites, that multiplier is the figure to act on. One refunded delivery order removes around three times the sales of a refunded shop order.

The same multiplier separates two numbers that get read as one. Delivery is a smaller share of your order count than of your sales, because each delivery order is bigger. A group that ranks its refunds by order count will put delivery below the counter and miss where the money goes.

What is a delivery order worth against a shop order?

Around three times a shop order, going by Greggs' own half-year figures (Greggs, Interim Results, 29 July 2026, p. 5). Apply the multiplier to your own counter receipt rather than a sector average. A £5 shop order becomes about £15 on Uber Eats or Just Eat. An £8 one becomes about £24. Every missing item on delivery is written off against the larger figure.

£5 about £15
£8 about £24
£10 about £30

What does a month of refunds cost on delivery?

Take 30 missing-item refunds in a month across a group. At £15 a delivery order, that is £450 of sales. The same 30 refunds on £5 shop orders would be £150, a third of the delivery figure. Delivery accounts for 6.9% of sales at Greggs and carries the larger loss per refund. What delivery order errors cost sets out the other charges attached to each one.

The multiplier also sets the threshold for checking. A packer who skips a check on a £5 counter order risks £5. The same skipped check on a delivery order risks about £15. In our experience that is the number that changes how a kitchen treats the delivery shelf. Bronze photographs every order, compares what was ordered with what was packed and keeps the timestamped photo, in real time.

Pull last month’s refunds on Uber Eats and Just Eat, multiply them by your delivery receipt, then see how missing-item claims are answered.
